My Bio

Greetings!

My name is Chris Halverson. I am the husband of Maura Flanagan Halverson, the father of six children - five girls and one boy - and the grandfather of three grandchildren.

I serve as Minister-at-Large with the National Capital Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church, USA, located in metropolitan Washington, DC. My home is at Springdale Farm in Shepherdstown, WV, but I spend some of my time in metropolitan Washington, DC.

In 1974, I graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. Following ordination in 1978, I served as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in congregations throughout Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and West Virginia.

In 1992, I was called to serve as Acting Chaplain to the United States Senate, in place of my father who had taken ill and was unable to fulfill his duties. Following the election of a new Chaplain in 1995, I organized fellowship activities for State Legislators across the country and facilitated “faith-sharing” events for Governors at various gatherings of the National Governor’s Association.

In August of 2001, I answered a call to serve as interim pastor of Charles Town Presbyterian Church, in Charles Town, WV. Following this charge, in February of 2003, my family and I established ‘Unum Necessarium’ (One Thing Necessary) - a church organization that seeks to encourage and train people from all walks of life, especially those in positions of leadership, to serve as disciples of Christ in the ordinary circumstances of everyday life, at home and in the work place.

On Sunday's I preach in congregations when called upon. And during the week, I seek to encourage fellowship, counsel and instruction, with individuals, couples and small groups, in private homes and public places. We often host guests at Springdale Farm, for times of fellowship, prayer, study and breaking of bread.
